Families at Hunters Creek and Woodview elementary schools proved recently that two campuses really are better than one when a Dec. 2 Fun Run hosted at Hunters Creek raised a majority of funds needed to make the new, planned SPARK Park at Woodview Elementary move ahead.
Hunters Creek Elementary hosted the Fun Run event to help Woodview, its PTA Sister School, raise $5,000 for its park project portion. Many Spring Branch ISD schools in recent years have partnered with campuses through the district Council of PTAs Sister School Solution project.
At this time of year, many partnering schools are collecting winter coats for their sister schools, as well as collecting holiday food items and canned goods, school needs and toys, and other gift items.
At Hunters Creek, PTA Chairs Jen Moss and Kelly Siblik coordinated with Health Fitness teacher Pamela Thompson to plan a wonderful time on Dec. 2 for Fun Run students from both schools.
PTA-funded school buses brought many Woodview Elementary students in third-, fourth- and fifth-grade to Hunters Creek, where they completed Fun Run laps and activities during the school day. Each grade level arrived at separate time periods.
Students played getting-to-know-you type games, ran the school track to uplifting, fun music, and then gathered together at the end of their time period for water and dance celebrations.
Hunters Creek students and families raised more than $4,600 for the SPARK Park, several hundred dollars over their $4,000 goal, Principal Robye Snyder reports. “It was a blast,” the principal said of the special day.
At Woodview Elementary, two grade levels raised more than $300. “I do think that we will make our final goal!” proclaims Principal Pamela Pennington.
