Dear SBISD Families and Staff,
Last night, we made a school reopening decision based on the information that was available to us at the time and believing that opening our schools as soon as possible was in our students’ and families’ best interests.
Based on information and feedback we received overnight and this morning from families and staff who remain displaced and unsure of their next steps, and continually changing conditions, we have determined that it is best for all SBISD schools and facilities to remain closed all next week.
We sincerely apologize for any added anxiety, concern and stress we have caused over the last many hours. Our highest priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our families and staff, and this time our decision yielded unintended consequences to the contrary.
We will continue to provide updates and resources on our website, social media, call outs and the local news media.
Thank you for your understanding as we continue to work through uncharted territory for our district and community.
Original Posting for Thurs., Aug. 31, 2017:
We hope this email finds you all safe and well, and our hearts and prayers go out to all of you who have been adversely impacted by this unprecedented storm.
In SBISD, we are looking forward to re-opening our schools as soon as it is safe for us to do so, though we are not yet able to project when that will be. When we do re-open, our staff will be prepared to provide as much consistency and normalcy as possible for our children and for each other. Please do not worry about whether your child will be able to return to his/her home campus if your family is displaced. Your children are our children -- we will make every effort to assure they are able to remain at their home school. Efforts are underway to assure our schools will open with social services teams prepared to help families in need.
We are also developing an FAQ document to provide answers to questions you may have. Please email me at linda.buchman@springbranchisd.com if you have a question.
We continue to coordinate and communicate with city and county officials as the aftermath of Harvey continues. We will continue to keep you updated via email, callout, website postings, and social media if and when new information becomes available.
As is always the case, the SBISD community has already begun mobilizing to help – the #CollectiveGreatness of our Spring Branch Family cannot be underestimated, and we are so grateful. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers. Please stay safe and let us know how we can help.
Best,
Linda Buchman
