UIL releases new athletic district changes

Spring Branch ISD high schools will compete under new boundaries released recently by the University Interscholastic League (UIL).

The UIL realigns districts every two years based on enrollment figures so the realignments announced will affect the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years ahead.

This year’s realignment includes reclassifying the largest schools as Class 6A. Both Memorial and Northbrook high schools will compete in this new class against five Aldine ISD high schools – Aldine, Davis, Eisenhower, MacArthur and Nimitz.

Under realignment, Spring Woods and Stratford high schools will move up from 4A to Class 5A. They will compete against the following high schools – Brenham, Magnolia, Magnolia West, Tomball, Tomball Memorial and Waller.

Many area high schools knew what classification they would be given because UIL announced enrollment cutoff figures earlier, but the schools did not know what district they would be assigned. The new districts take effect with the 2014 high school football season.

Classification cutoffs are as follows:

Class 6A: 2,100 students and above
Class 5A: 1060-2099
Class 4A: 465-1059
Class 3A: 220-464
Class 2A: 105-219
Class A: 104 and below

More detailed information will be posted to the SBISD Athletics Department website as it becomes available.
