Sixty Years at Pine Shadows

The Pine Shadows Elementary School community will celebrate 60 years of local education with a children’s carnival and public anniversary ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 21, on the campus grounds.

Pine Shadows Elementary School is located at 9900 Neuens, one block south of Hammerly Boulevard between Gessner and Blalock.

The carnival will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. Dance performances are planned during carnival hours by different grade levels to reflect the “Dancing Through the Decades” theme.

Pine Shadows Elementary opened in 1955. The new school was rebuilt under the 2007 SBISD Bond plan. It reopened in August 2012 as a two-story, 109,000 square feet, building with tall glass-curtain walls and a building plan that includes four areas identified by colors and “habitats” – an ocean, a rain forest, a mountain and blue sky. New classroom and support spaces are all identified by animals that inhabit a specific habitat.
