MHS Alum Wins Pulitzer Prize for 2016 Election Coverage

Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold, a 1996 Memorial High School graduate, on Monday won the Pulitzer Prize in National Reporting for his work on Donald Trump’s campaign during the 2016 presidential election. Fahrenthold’s reporting used crowdsourcing and other non-traditional newsgathering methods to look at Trump’s charitable giving. Fahrenthold also broke the story that included the Access Hollywood footage of Trump making crude comments about women.

Fahrenthold is MHS’s third Pulitzer winner – 1986 MHS graduate Jim Sheeler won in 2006 for a series of stories on families who lost loved ones in Iraq; and Bruce Norris, a 1978 MHS graduate and playwright who won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for “Clybourne Park.”
