The Texas Legislature has set Aug. 11-13, a Friday through Sunday period, for this year’s annual sales tax holiday on many Back to School related items priced at less than $100. Popular tax holiday items range from student clothing and footwear to backpacks and school supplies.
Depending on the city or county sales tax involved, the Texas Comptroller says the tax-free weekend could save smart shoppers up to $8 on every $100 spent. Texas’ sales tax holiday includes qualifying items sold online, or by telephone and mail. A layaway plan also qualifies for the tax advantage, the state agency reports.
