Community Makes Spring Branch Education Foundation School Supply Drive A Success

Thousands of Spring Branch ISD students who qualify for free and reduced lunch (more than half the district’s population) receive school supplies from Spring Branch Education Foundation. Generous community members make this possible.

This year, the community raised more than $7,600 to purchase supplies in bulk. Chick-fil-A Silber Road sponsored a Stuff the Bus drive; diners filled the bus. The Brenda and John Duncan YMCA donated approximately 800 supply packets for elementary students.

“This was our first year to partner with the Foundation,” said Sloane Pardue, senior marketing director, Chick-fil-A Silber Road. “Neighboring businesses got on board and brought in everything from fully stocked backpacks to boxes of spiral notebooks.” In addition to sponsoring the supply drive, the restaurant provided lunch for volunteers, as well as a half-dozen employees to help assemble packets for Title 1 SBISD schools.

Other volunteers came from Stratford High School’s Key Club, the Hearts Chapter of National Charity League; and SBEF Board member Warren Sloan and his son, Alex.

The school supply initiative is spearheaded by SBEF board member Patty Busmire and her daughter, Becky. In the ninth year of this mother/daughter project, this one was a little different. Patty was on-site, while Becky handled spread-sheets from Europe where she is completing a German minor from St. Edward’s University.
