Rummel Creek Elementary Students Show Unique Law Enforcement Spirit

SBISD Students & Staff Hosted Red, White and Back the Blue Rally for Red Ribbon Week

One elementary school’s passion for law enforcement is so loud and strong it might warrant a call to the local authorities. But that wasn't needed, since more than a dozen local police officers were on hand as honored guests at Rummel Creek Elementary’s special Red, White and Back the Blue spirit rally.

The rally combined elements of the Red Ribbon Week drug and alcohol prevention campaign, which is being celebrated widely this week and also supports local law enforcement. The school gym on the transitional Westchester Academy campus – Rummel Creek’s original school is now being rebuilt – was filled with loud cheers and claps, unique student songs, special bracelets, thank you notes, and countless other signs of admiration and respect as 700 students joined staff, parents and community members to show their support for local law enforcement.

The Memorial-area campus hosted this unique school event – the first of its kind for the school and Spring Branch ISD. It was inspired by the tragic death of Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth, and much of the rally’s music was created by music teacher Karen Donathen after watching the recent televised funeral.
