Volunteer to be a CODE BUDDY!

Hour of Code is coming to Spring Branch and we need CODE BUDDIES!

Hour of Code will be back this year during the week of Dec. 7-15 in SBISD. We're looking for volunteers to serve as CODE BUDDIES! If you are interested in being part of this exciting week of learning, make sure to plan to attend an upcoming informational training session on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the Harris County Spring Branch/Memorial Library (930 Corbindale) between 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm.

What and when is HOUR OF CODE?
Hour of Code is Dec. 7 – 15, 2015. Anyone can host an Hour of Code at any time, but the campaign goal for this year is for tens of millions of students to try coding during the week of Dec. 7-15 in celebration of Computer Science Education Week. You can be part of this movement by volunteering to be a CODE BUDDY in a Spring Branch ISD school!

When is the free training to be a CODE BUDDY?
With a short investment of time, you can learn to be a CODE BUDDY in Spring Branch! There will be a special HOUR OF CODE training / Q&A session Tuesday, Dec. 1st at the Harris County Spring Branch/Memorial Library at 930 Corbindale during the hours of 3:30 pm – 6:30 pmParents, students and community members should advantage of this opportunity. Both unplugged activities and online self-guided tutorials will be available.

What is a CODE BUDDY?
Community volunteers can serve as CODE BUDDIES to support SBISD during Hour of Code Week (Dec. 7-15). Hour of Code is a global, T-2-4 aligned movement designed to help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills, and prepare SBISD students for any future career through Hour of Code activities.

Registered volunteers can contact the campus contact indicated on the Computer Science Week website for specific days/times/campus needs. Volunteer opportunities range from delivering an Hour of Code lesson to being an extra hand in a classroom to simply observing students complete their activities.

Why is coding a critical skill for students?
December 1st is your chance to find out. Every 21st Century student should have the opportunity to take part in creating technology that’s changing our world. Coding prepares kids for the future! Once a student can see what they create, right before their eyes, they’re empowered to keep going. Coding nurtures creativity and problem-solving skills, and prepared students for any future career.
