Spring Woods Speech and Debate Students Stand Out

Spring Woods High School speech and debate students shined brightly at two recent September tournaments. Go Tiger Speech & Debate!

Speech and Debate students at Spring Woods High School began the new school year by finishing at or near the top in several area tournaments during September.

Tiger Speech and Debate students returned from the Sept. 19 tournament held at Memorial High School with a 2nd Place Sweepstakes trophy, championship titles and three student qualifications for state.

Tournament results there include:
  • Novice Extemporaneous Speaking: Hunter Brown, 1st Place
  • Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking: Jeremiah Menslage, 4th Place
  • Dramatic Interpretation: Kris McDermott, 3rd Place
  • Humorous Interpretation: Angel Ramirez, 2nd Place and State Qualifier; Enrique Urdiales, 4th Place; Samir Hussein, 5th Place
  • Prose: Carlos Diaz, 4th Place
  • Poetry: Nemo Martinez, 6th Place
  • Original Oratory: Christine, 1st Place; Angel Ramirez, 3rd Place and Stare Qualifier
  • Duet Acting: Angel Ramirez & Carlos Diaz, 1st Place
  • Duo Interpretation: Angel Ramirez & Carlos Diaz, 1st Place; Julia Allison & Samir Hussein, 2nd Place; Jesus Hernandez & Esmeralda Rosales, 4th Place
  • Congressional Debate: Christine Vo, 1st Place and State Qualifier; Katie Koslan, 7th Place; Jeremiah Menslage, 8th Place; and Hunter Brown, 10th Place
Earlier, student speech and debate team members from Spring Woods High placed 2nd out of 21 teams gathered on Sept. 6 at Montgomery High School’s Speech and Debate Tournament held in Montgomery, Texas.

  • Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking: Christine Vo, 3rd Place

  • Original Oratory: Angel Ramirez, 1st Place; Christine Vo, 2nd Place; Sabina Garibovic, 8th Place
  • Duo Interpretation: Julie Allison/Samir Hussein, 2nd Place; Alejandra Aguilar/Enrique Urdiales, 3rd Place; Esmeralda Rosales/Jesus Hernandez, 4th Place
  • Duet Acting: Carlos Diaz/Angel Ramirez, 3rd Place
  • Prose Interpretation: Makala Loftis, 4th Place; Julia Allison, 6th Place
